Not many could have foreseen Jason Castro’s meteoric rise within the context of American Idol Season 7. As one of the few contestants who got no camera time until the top 24 were revealed, Jason had a tough road ahead of him if he wanted to get noticed among the contestants who had already started generating a fan base.
But he managed it. He came out swinging with “Daydream” and followed it up with home runs like “Hallelujah,” “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” and “I Don’t Wanna Cry.” He was widely criticized for some of his other performances, but to those who enjoyed his laid back, mellow style, he could do no wrong.
